Presence (6 Keys To Recovery: #3)

Presence teaches us to savor every moment of our life and deeply listen to ourselves, family, friends, and all the universe. The past has gone, the future has not arrived, and this might be our last moment in this form – so don’t be so serious. Stay in the present and live!

We learn the wisdom of the ancient Buddhist saying “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” In stillness, the teacher appears. We learn that in stillness, we find our true self. We learn to nurture, nourish, and grow through understanding. We learn to have gratitude for all that we are, and all that we have – in the present moment, I am enough, I have enough, and I am right where I need to be. We learn to see beyond our automated survival instincts and imagine the conscious people we can all become. We learn to develop our perception and intelligence. We learn that the whole world is experienced within us, and that we do and should determine that experience. We learn that 99 out of 100 fears we have of the future never happen, we learn to create beautiful stories in our minds. We learn that our true selves are unconscious beauty just waiting to bloom, not our achievements and identities, which are impermanent. We learn to take charge of our inner life. We learn that our inner life is OUR reality.

Stay in the present, the only place that you actually live. Be there, for your self, for the ones you love, and for everyone you meet. Learn the lessons of the past, but forget the mistakes, stop beating yourself up already. Plan for the future, but accept and embrace uncertainty – go with the flow, change happens. When you remove the noise of the past and the worries of the future, you find calm, and in that calm you find clarity, and in that clarity you find joy – contentment with yourself and the world, just as it is. In calm you find intent, what do you really want; what do you really need.

Today, I will know, that paying attention to the present will sharpen my focus, strengthen my relationships, improve my performance, and calm my mind. Today I will know, the present is the only place that I actually live. Today I will savor the present moment, for I know not which present moment will be my last in this form. Today I will live! in the present moment.
